The 2024 G20 Interfaith Forum and PaRD Annual Forum on Religion and Sustainable Development was held between August 19-23, 2024, in Brasilia, Brazil. This year’s theme was “Leaving No One Behind: The Well-Being of the Planet and Its People.” Organised annually on the sidelines of the G20, this year’s IF20 Forum is considered an integral part of Brazil's 2024 G20 presidency. GGI's Medlir Mema spoke on a panel on the impact of Artificial Intelligence on vulnerable populations and the Global South. He also discussed the role that civil society, including religious organisations, can play when it comes to addressing the ethical challenges posed by developments in AI. Mema emphasised the importance of inclusive governance frameworks that involve diverse stakeholders, including faith-based organisations, in shaping AI policies that prioritise human dignity, social justice, and sustainable development. He called for a collaborative approach where civil society and religious groups work alongside governments and the private sector to ensure that AI technologies are harnessed in ways that benefit the most marginalised communities and contribute to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
