On 7 March 2025, the Global Governance Institute (GGI) hosted a full-day Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR) training session in Brussels as part of the EU co-funded project “Dialogue for a Resilient Future.” The session marked a key milestone in piloting the immersive learning component of the project’s upcoming certification programme on urban resilience and sustainable development.

Through guided VR tours and scenario-based exercises, participants explored resilient city planning environments, tested policy interventions, and engaged with simulated stakeholder dynamics — all within a fully immersive digital space. These tools are designed to complement the online modules and offer participants a hands-on, interactive approach to learning. Participants were able to test and reflect on how these technologies enhance understanding, retention, and engagement compared to traditional learning formats. Facilitated discussions throughout the day explored how immersive tools can help make abstract concepts — like future scenario planning, data gaps, or participatory governance — more tangible and accessible.

The pilot session provided critical feedback to the project consortium, helping refine the AR/VR modules before their full rollout this year. The consortium partners and participants left with a deeper appreciation of how immersive learning can support meaningful change in the way urban resilience is taught and practiced.

The AR/VR training is part of a wider free certificate programme funded by the European Union under its Erasmus+ VET scheme, open to professionals worldwide. Upon completion, participants earn an EQF Level 5 Diploma in Urban Resilience.
