Newsletters and focus areas

Our newsletters use double opt-in. After you sign up you receive an email asking you to confirm; nothing is sent until you click that link. You choose which of our six focus areas you want to hear about, and you can change that selection or unsubscribe from the link in any email we send.

Cookies and analytics

Our website sets cookies that are strictly necessary for it to work. With your consent, we also use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used, which tells us which publications are read and where visitors come from. You can accept or decline analytics cookies through the banner shown on your first visit, and you can change your choice at any time by clearing your browser's cookies for this site.

Who processes data on our behalf

We use a small number of service providers, who act only on our instructions and cannot use your data for their own purposes.

Transfers outside the European Economic Area

Some of the providers above process data in the United States. Where that happens, transfers are covered by the European Commission's standard contractual clauses or by the provider's certification under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, together with the additional safeguards those mechanisms require.

How long we keep it

  • Newsletter data is kept until you unsubscribe, and the record of your consent for a further three years after that.
  • Course and event records are kept for the period required by Belgian accounting and administrative law.
  • Correspondence is kept for as long as it is useful to the matter it concerns, and then deleted.
  • Analytics data is retained by Google Analytics for fourteen months.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask us to:

  • give you a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
  • correct anything that is wrong or incomplete;
  • delete your data, where we have no continuing reason to keep it;
  • restrict how we use it, or object to a particular use;
  • send your data to you or another organisation in a portable format;
  • withdraw consent at any time, which stops future processing but does not affect what was lawful before.

Write to info@globalgovernance.eu and we will respond within one month.

If you are not satisfied

You can complain to the Belgian Data Protection Authority, Rue de la Presse 35, 1000 Brussels, or through dataprotectionauthority.be. You may also complain to the authority in the country where you live or work.

Security

We keep personal data on services that encrypt it in transit and at rest, limit access to the people who need it, and protect accounts with multi-factor authentication. No system is perfect, and if a breach affects your rights we will tell you and the supervisory authority as the GDPR requires.

Changes to this notice

If we change how we handle personal data we will update this page and the date at the top. Material changes affecting the newsletter will be announced in the newsletter itself.
